Hit Player

HITMEDIA's Player product line for mobile users

A Player or Media Player is the software on the client computer that decompresses a video or audio content using a codec. The player helps to get the content, to manage it, select for playing and makes it visible or audible.. The media player can be used as a stand alone application or embedded in a Web page to create a video application interacting with HTML content.

"Codec" is short for compression/decompression, and codecs are used to compress digital audio or video into files of a manageable size. Two factors determine the quality of a codec. First, the quality of the playback; second, the size of the files. Typically, those two trade off against each other- the more you compress a file, the more details or accuracy of the signal is removed. Removing details and deteriorating the accuracy makes the quality lower, or modifies the signal from original.

HITMEDIA INT. has developed a family of Player products for mobile phones. The family today consists of four different members, having in common the high quality of playback and the revolutionary user interface making them easy to use for all. They use less processor power and memory than comparative products, thus saving the mobile device's battery power.

The economic use of mobile phone resources by the Hit Player products also make them ideal to download to existing phones, converting those into media phones. This suddenly increases the potential reachable customer base of any media distributing company.

The Hit Player products differ between them in having been configured for different segments of the market.

The player is independent of processor- and operating systems.

The Hit Player products are:

Hit Freeplayer offers all the playback qualities of the higher end products. It can be downloaded for free and allows the storage of up to 8 videos and music pieces. Content played has to be encoded in HITMEDIA's own format. Product suits well for commercial messages.

Hit Player puts no limits on the number of video and music pieces stored. Hit Player allows DRM functionality. Decision of applying DRM is solely on the distributor of content. Content has to be encoded in HITMEDIA's own format.

Hit Media Player has all the functionality of the Hit Player. In addition it can handle mainstream formats and play them. It is ideal for any music and video consumer. Hit Media Player can handle and manage all major formats. Additional DRM can be added to all formats.

The Hit Player products can be downloaded from HITMEDIA's partners' websites. Pricing at the discretion of our partners.

Development platforms for the Hit Player products are Symbian (e.g. Nokia) and Java (e.g. Sony Ericsson). A list of phone models supported will be available on HITMEDIA's website.

New Hit Player versions will be developed as required by the market.

HITMEDIA also has developed and patented a superior codec technology, included in all Hit Player products. It allows music and video contents to be optimised for use in handheld mobile devices. Decompressed by the Hit Player client, the original content is played back at a very high quality.

The main benefits of the codec compared to mainstream mobile codecs are:

1. Crisp sound synced with the video
2. Nonexistent pixeling, smoother images
3. Superior frame rates even on old handsets
4. Immediate start, both sound and video
5. Player is small, i.e. ~100kB
6. Battery and processor load is smaller

Hit Encoding Services is the system that converts the master content file into the Hit format ready for downloading by any user having an approved phone model and Hit Player software. Encoding is handled either by HITMEDIA or by its partners.
